Should I expect much pain during the procedure?
Typically patients experience a mild level of discomfort during the procedure. Local anesthetic
is injected in the operating site at the beginning of the case, and this is usually the worst part of the procedure for most
people. Once the anesthetic has taken effect, patients generally report experiencing very little if any pain throughout the
rest of the surgery.
How soon can I resume sexual relations
after the surgery?
No sexual relations for a minumum of two weeks. However,
if there is any lingering swelling or irritation at the incision sites you may want to wait until the swelling and pain has
subsided.
What are the odds that this procedure will result in
a pregnancy?
There are multiple factors involved that influence a couple’s
chances of becoming pregnant after a vasectomy reversal. Variables such as age, overall heath, post-op scarring, and the amount
of time that has elapsed between the initial vasectomy and reversal all affect the chances of the procedure resulting in a
pregnancy. For women, the single most important factor is age, followed by overall health status. In our effort to give patients
an idea of their chances of becoming pregnant, we continually ask for feedback from past patients. According to our most recent
survey, 87% of our patients have reported a positive sperm count after having the procedure. 62% percent of our patients report
having had at least one pregnancy as a result of the procedure.
How
soon can I return back to work?
After surgery, bed-rest is recommended
for the remainder of the day with the exception of eating and going to the bathroom. Two days following the procedure, most
activities can be tolerated. Normally, the procedure is performed on a Friday which allows patients time to rest over the
weekend. Most patients are able to return to work on the following Monday

Dr. Stanton has
performed vasectomy reversals on patients as old as 73 and as young as 19. With all patients considered, the average age of
his patient’s is 36 years old for men; their wives: 32
What
is the average amount of time that has elapsed between vasectomy and reversal for most patients?
7 years between vasectomy and reversal is typical.
What
are the risks associated with this surgery?
In general, the risk of developing
a complication is very low (less than 1%). Possible risks include the following: inflammation, pain, swelling, infection,
and formation of a granuloma, hematoma, or hydrocele.

Yes. We leave
this decision up to each couple to decide for themselves.
